The government has lost contact with thousands.
The House Oversight and Accountability Committee’s subcommittee on national security, border security, and foreign affairs held a hearing this week titled called “Oversight of the Office of Refugee Resettlement’s Unaccompanied Alien Children Program.” Concerns have been raised over the government losing track of approximately 85,000 minor children who crossed the border into the U.S. unaccompanied by an adult.
Representative Katie Porter of California told Health and Human Services officials, “I have always promised to hold the powerful to account, regardless of political party.” She expressed concerns over corporate America “putting children in danger to boost their profits,” and said the administration has not had proper checks on the children nor vetted those who have “sponsored” them.
The director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, Robin Dunn Marcos, was either unwilling or unable to answer Representative Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin when he asked if the high number of minor children was correct.
Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona told Director Marcos, “You knew you were coming into this hearing. You knew these numbers were going to be asked. This is inappropriate behavior of somebody of your caliber. If you can’t have these numbers, you can’t make good policy.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Director Marcos as she heads the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
- For members of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee as they investigate the number of unaccompanied minors the government has admitted.
- For Secretary Becerra to seek God’s wisdom as he leads the Department of Health and Human Services.
